Was here for a friend’s birthday party with some close friends. I was super excited about the Delancey Rooftop Garden because it looked like such a cool and unique place to hang out with friends. The people are friendly and the energy is high. There’s trees and it turned out exactly what I thought it would be: a spacious, comfy and tropical setting for chilling out. Overall, cool spot if you are in the area.

Every year brings a spate of new rooftop bars to the city. When summer rolls around here in NYC, we and visitors alike love spending time outside. Preferably with a refreshing cocktail in hand. Everywhere you’ll look in New York there’s no shortage of awesome views to enjoy. Thank you for guiding me and others.

  3. Okay, personal observation, you might agree or disagree, rooftop bars are places where these people meet: professionals, prima donna types, trust-fund babies, regulars (like me) and tourists!

  4. One thing I’ve learned about rooftop bars: If you just want to chill, relax and not fond of big groups, go early! You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the space and take pictures! But if you’re in the mood for partying, then go late! (of course you have to check on the opening and closing hours to know early and late times… LOL)

    I usually go early!

  5. I love rooftop bars with pool! Thanks for including in your list 😉

  6. In my search for the “NYC best rooftop bar,” I try to google and compare recommendations of various articles. And I noticed that Gallow Green is always part of the list. I guess, it’s a must visit place for me in my upcoming trip to NYC. I’d like to commend you for you have the most fantastic photos, great job! (I’ve checked out 6 articles).

  7. I know for a fact that rooftop bars are “staple” for summer in NYC, but I wonder, which rooftop bars are for “all-season?” You mentioned Gallow converting into a rustic ski-lodge atmosphere during winter and Upstairs at Kimberly Hotel offering a good time regardless of the weather, but do you have addition to these two?

  8. Thank you for sharing great information about NYC! Rooftop bars give stunning views of the area (and that’s what I love about these places). I’ve visited a number of these but not in NYC! Reading this article got me excited! Will definitely check at least 2 from this list when I got the chance to visit NYC!

  9. Great photos! I felt like I was able to visit these rooftop bars, I find them beautiful, breathtaking and romantic 😉

  10. To answer your question: “Have you been to these; what did you think?”

I’ve been to Gallow Green at The McKittrick Hotel a number of times (with friends). I love the ethereal, charmingly overgrown garden party vibe of the place! I also think that it’s 360(degree) view of NYC is fantastic!

  11. Great list and amazing photos! But I wish you could have suggested their signature drinks / cocktails… Personally that’s what I wanted to read and learn about these awesome places. Hmmm… Just sharing my thoughts 😉

    • In my recent trip to NYC, I was able to visit two of the rooftop bars mentioned: Gansevoort Park Pool Bar and Ivy Lounge; and Gallow Green at Mckittrick Hotel.

      My personal favorites:
      – Gansevoort Park Pool Bar and Ivy Lounge: “Frosé.” A refreshing beverage with frozen berries and rosé sorbet.

      – Gallow Green at Mckittrick Hotel: It’s called Sleep No More, it has rhubarb, ginger-infused vodka and champagne.

    • @Nicole I personally think (although I’ve only visited three) these rooftop bars do not ONLY offer great view and ambiance, but they ALL SERVE excellent drinks. My suggestion would be, select which you think is the best among the “best” rooftop bars and order the drink / cocktail that would catch your attention when you’re reading the menu 🙂 After all, it’s in New York, you can never go wrong…

  12. I’m not from New York and I’ve been hearing a LOT about rooftop bars in NYC. I’ve been told they’re must visit places! But I’m having a hard time selecting the best since friends all have their wonderful comments.

Thank you very much for this helpful list and for sharing photos! This will help me in choosing which to check out first 😉

  13. PHD is where you will usually see me and my gal pals after office hours.

    • I think I did see you there, Zenab! I’ll give you a holler next time. I also like going here.

I am not sure when this phenomenon started, but I love rooftop bars! They give me a fantastic view of the city and even deliver a sense of posh that most street level bars can live up to.

Thank you for posting this, I really like your articles that’s why I keep coming back! 🙂

I have been to the Glass Bar and I do love it. I have been trying to check out other NYC Bars through http://www.CityMaps.com It has been quite help in many respects because I can skip going to google, then yelp, then open table, then mapquest…. and have everything in one spot.
