Ho sempre amato l'aspetto delle sale fumatori d'altri tempi. Conosci lo stile: tartan ovunque, pareti verde scuro, librerie dal pavimento al soffitto piene di libri antichi, pareti e soffitti rivestiti in legno, tavoli in ottone e sedie in pelle. Anche se non comprerei mai niente di pelle animale, lo sono gravemente innamorato di tutto tartan. Questa è la mia ispirazione:
La stanza in cui ho dovuto lavorare non era perfetta per questo stile di decorazione, dal momento che i suoi pannelli di legno e il soffitto erano già dipinti di bianco (e non avevo intenzione di spogliarli e macchiarli - non in un affitto, comunque!) quindi ho fatto del mio meglio con quello che avevo. Mentre le lampade, i tendaggi, i tappeti e alcuni dei mobili sono stati donati per questi articoli, ho raccolto diversi fantastici reperti vintage dalla versione locale di Craigslist e fai-da-te.

Questo divano in velluto verde-marrone è Divano Sofia di Flamant. Ho messo una coperta a spina di pesce sopra per dargli un aspetto più casual e per proteggere il velluto:
I got these gorgeous, soft, tartan curtains from Curtains2Go, made for my apartments’ extra-tall ceilings. I was very pleasantly surprised by how high-quality they are. They feel and look like a wool-cashmere mix, but they’re vegan (and won’t attract moths into your home!)
Here’s the sofa I bought for €50 before I painted the wood gold (using a semi-transparent gold paint that shows the wood underneath). I plan on reupholstering the seat cushions using tartan fabric matching the drapes, and making several throw pillows from the same fabric. I’ll update this article once I’m done!
And here it is after I painted the wood gold. I got all the furniture you see in this shot used. It’s all vintage. The globe opens up into a bar (I scored it for €40) and the chairs are antiques (for only €25 each!) #TotalSteal!

This gorgeous aged iron pendant chandelier is from the Fredrick Ramond Collection at Hinkley Lighting. I love the antiqued glass and the vintage look of it:

La libreria rossa è di Grange. Mi hanno lasciato scegliere i colori e le finiture, quindi si abbinava perfettamente al look Che stavo cercando. all'interno Ci sono barattoli decorativi dila mia marca di tè preferita, candele elettriche telecomandate (visto che quelle vere sono un pericolo quando si hanno dei gatti), e ho trovato la scultura del cavallo nel negozio di souvenir di il castello meno noto che ha ispirato Versailles.
The dining table is from French Heritage. It’s the only piece of furniture we brought with us when abbiamo lasciato New York per il nostro anno in Francia (abbiamo donato tutto il resto!) I picked it up at ABC Home in NYC and I absolutely love it. It’s made from reclaimed wood. The green chairs are from Flamant and the brown ones are vintage — I picked them up on LeBonCoin for €8 each, then painted the ribbon detail on them gold.
Mike ha ereditato questa arte murale scultorea da sua nonna, e il resto noi comprato su eBay o usati per circa € 15 a € 40 ciascuno:
Ho dipinto l'oro sulla testa di cervo e, sebbene sia stato veloce da fare, ha davvero fatto risaltare la scultura:
La lampada scimmia è di Zara Home (l'ho dipinta io, e ho intenzione di rifare il paralume con tessuto tartan), e ci credete che ho trovato questa statua di cavallo buttata nella spazzatura per strada??
Questo era un vecchio orologio a pendolo (marrone scuro) e vuoto che qualcuno stava buttando via, quindi l'ho preso. Con l'aiuto di Manon, l'abbiamo dipinta di rosso, poi abbiamo usato la cera nera sui bordi per dargli una finitura anticata. Il pannello posteriore ha carta (con annunci di viaggi europei vintage) decoupage su di esso. Il decoupage (che fondamentalmente utilizza una colla speciale per applicare la carta decorativa su una superficie e renderla resistente all'acqua) è un ottimo modo per cambiare rapidamente l'aspetto dei mobili con uno sforzo o un costo minimo. Per trasformare l'orologio vuoto in una lampada, ho comprato queste luci a cordaE alcune lampadine in stile Edison (ma ecologiche) per l'interno.
Abbiamo angosciato, levigato, macchiato di nuovo e aggiunto accenti di cera scura al tavolino in modo che si abbinasse al tavolo da pranzo, quindi ho rifornito il ripiano inferiore di giochi da tavolo. Abbiamo comprato il tavolo (per – sì, avete indovinato – € 20) da una donna che aveva il gatto più bello che avessi mai visto: un salvataggio. Mike e io l'abbiamo portato attraverso la città per portarlo a casa, ma ne è valsa la pena, perché è venuto benissimo:
La donna che ci ha venduto questo carrello da bar vintage in ottone (per € 15) ce l'ha consegnato e abbiamo fatto una bella chiacchierata sui migliori villaggi di Francia. Amo comprare usato perché è ecologico, perché un soldo risparmiato è un soldo donato quando si muore (visto che non avremo figli, Il 100% di ciò con cui moriamo va in beneficenza come Misericordia per gli animali), ma anche perché incontro tante belle persone!
Alla fine, mi sono avvicinato all'aspetto che stavo cercando, ma non esattamente... Dato che la mia sala da pranzo ha il soffitto bianco, le porte bianche e la boiserie bianca, quindi sono riluttante a dipingere le pareti di scuro, poiché il contrasto potrebbe aspetto troppo intenso, e la stanza ancora troppo luminosa. Ma sono molto contenta di come è andata a finire, e se hai qualche suggerimento su cose da cambiare, o consigli fai-da-te, per favore fammelo sapere qui sotto, nella discussione dei commenti.

As much as I love DIY projects, some people just don’t have the patience to do them. I also find that it’s a lot expensive than just buying a furniture from the store. You can always find one that suits your theme if you look hard enough. At least I don’t have to be an expert on power tools just so I can create the sofa of my dreams… Not to mention that if you suck at DIY and mess up an antique sofa, you can end up wasting a lot of money instead of saving. I like the ideas you have here, but it’s something I just can’t do!
That lighting fixture is very nice. But not as awesome as your chandelier from before! I was such a fan of that.
I haven’t really seen anyone who didn’t like that chandelier! It’s my personal favorite too.
My favorite here would be the couches! They look very comfy and it’s ideal for lounging while reading a book. I could also imagine working on a couple of arts and crafts at that long table. It may not be designated for that but I just think it’s possible. It’s a nice room that creates a warm ambiance that’s perfect for doing relaxing things after a long hard day. It’s not zen-like, but definitely comfort inducing.
The closest we’d got to DIY was putting together Ikea furniture, and even that was hard work.
Nice antique couches you have there. They look rather expensive and has a “royalty” feel to it. Not a fan of the photo wall, probably needs to have better organization or more variations of frames so they each stand-out. But overall, your home looks pretty. I agree that the room looks rather light for a dark wall. But if you really want the Polo Bar effect, you might want to switch up on the decorations and push a little further!
DIY homes are pretty awesome. Although they take up a lot of time and effort to do, it’s usually worth it in the end. Especially when you know where to get the furniture and decorations that you want, you’re bound to create your dream home. It’s also very fulfilling since you know the labor you put into making every little piece is made out of love! For this kind of antique themes, it’s also nice to look into thrift antique shops. They sell the cheapest and unique decors. From little drawers to exquisite looking statues, they have it. DIY is a lot like collecting things just so you can create a wonderful room in the end. Garage sales are also great places to find not-so-old furniture but very re-usable and can be made into a better one. It becomes a bit of a habit to spot furnitures and see them in such a way that it can fit right into your home without looking like a sore-thumb.
Not sure what to call those kinds of home theme. It’s like a modern-cabin kind of feel. Since you love antique, I think it would be nice to have a couple of old vinyl records hanging there somewhere! The wall needs a little bit of work too. Upon seeing your old post about your living room, the dining area sure is a lot different.
I really love your apartment. It feels really cozy. It does resemble the Polo Bar in a way– just a little renovations here and there and it would be perfect already.
