Giorno 4 - 7: Esplora e Glamp in "The Lost City of Petra"
Petra è, senza dubbio, uno dei luoghi più mozzafiato, avventurosi e belli da visitare in Giordania. L'intera città è ricoperta da rovine di oltre cinquantamila anni fa. Le strade sono lastricate di ciottoli, ci sono antiche case costruite con fango e mattoni e grandi anfiteatri, castelli, chiese, moschee e templi (i giordani avevano preferenze religiose versatili in passato). La città perduta di Petra è un posto meraviglioso per acquistare oggetti d'antiquariato e per imparare la storia della Giordania in prima persona.
Il tesoro di Amman
La prima cosa che vedi quando entri è il grande tesoro antico di Amman. Non ti è permesso entrare perché contiene i resti sepolti di vari re, insieme a tutte le loro ricchezze. A sinistra c'è un sentiero roccioso che conduce a diversi grandi templi che molti giordani tribali considerano ancora sacri. Dopo i templi arriva l'antica area residenziale delle tribù giordane, che consiste in varie piccole case fatte di grandi pietre scavate.
Alla fine del sentiero ci sono diverse rovine di anfiteatri, templi più piccoli, palazzi grandi e dal design complesso, vari negozi e un museo. Il museo è stato costruito all'interno di una pietra scavata ed è progettato per rappresentare come le tribù trascorrevano la giornata nelle loro piccole case. Qui sono stati esposti anche manufatti e fossili che sono stati trovati alla vista.
Ancora una volta, per Petra, è meglio noleggiare un'auto o assumere un autista. Tuttavia, se ti capita di venire dal Kempinski Hotel a Petra (è poco più di 3 ore di auto dal Kempinski Hotel o da Amman), allora potresti voler dare un'occhiata agli eccellenti servizi di trasporto di Kempinski. Offrono auto che vanno da graziose due ruote simili a taxi a quattro ruote completamente nere. L'hotel fornisce anche un autista. Se ti stai dirigendo verso sud per un po' di glamping dopo la tua visita a Petra, allora ti consiglio di noleggiare un SUV.
Una delle mie parti preferite della visita a Petra è stata salire su uno dei castelli. Ci sono circa cinque castelli a Petra, e mentre puoi visitarli tutti in due giorni, è molto più consigliabile che tu veda solo uno dei castelli. Tutti i castelli di Petra sono quasi identici, ad eccezione di poche differenze nei disegni che sono stati realizzati a causa del mutare delle dinastie.
Il castello che ho visitato era molto vicino al museo, quindi ho potuto riservare tutte le mie energie per salire sul castello. Le scale conducono a diverse stanze, la maggior parte delle quali buie e prive di mobili; una camera da letto, la sala da pranzo, il tesoro interno, la stanza degli schiavi o la sala delle riunioni dove il re dava ordini.
Ma la stanza più bella del castello è sicuramente quella sul tetto, dove i Principi si riunivano per imparare. Adoro le altezze, quindi guardare giù da quella stanza per vedere tutti i bellissimi edifici antichi di Petra è stato esaltante.

Was in Petra in November 2014. I saw very bad cases of animal abuse (donkeys being electrocuted with tazers, exhausted horses having to race up and down the site, very young children beating animals) Despite the beauty of the site I felt sicknened by the cruelty and the greed of the locals. Petra should be seen but any animal ride should be avoided.

Your guide on Petra is of immense help. I am trying to put together a trip to Petra. I have few questions. Did you book a private vehicle from Amman and drove all the way to Petra or took local vehicle from the hotel to move between Petra, Wadi rum and Amman? The site guides should we take from travel agent or get one from the tourist center? Could you share which travel agent you used in Jordan? Thanks!

Hi. Great post and great tips for Petra. I am thinking to visit Petra in the beginning of 2017 July. I know that is too hot, right? And do you think that one day is too much to visit Amman? I am thinking to do a 3 day trip. Arrive on thursday visit Amman and maybe in the same day travel to Petra. So i would have friday and saturday morning to visit Petra. Do you think that is enough?
