A Vacation Itinerary: Athens to Venice

Vouliagmeni

When you’re done savouring Athens city life, you can head just south of Athens, to the coastline of Vouliagmeni. There, you will be among the locals on holiday. Swim in any of the deep blue beaches, which consistently receive the EU Blue Flag award, an exclusive eco-label award.

I indulged and stayed in the ultra-posh Astir Palace Hotel, which is equal parts beach resort and stylish European hotel. Set on 75 acres of coastline, the resort complex includes two hotels The Westin Athens and Arion Resort & Spa. The pristine beaches are the star attraction but the spa, dining experiences – the seafood menu is actual fresh fish presented on a tray – and trendy nightlife options make the whole experience extraordinary.

Yet, the best part of Vouliagmeni for me had to be the dramatic sunset against the mountainous backdrop. Locals concede it is the “the second most beautiful sunset in the world” – the first, apparently, is on the Greek island of Santorini.

These are all great reasons to get the Athens. But for me, the history and culture of Greece and Greek mythology is the magnet that will draw me there. Of course, these are all valid reasons and each is the icing on the cake.

I asked my girlfriend where she wants to celebrate her 26th birthday, and I guess she already read this article because she answered Southern Europe.

Can you suggest a local food that we could try? A trip couldn’t be a complete journey without a taste of a local dish or snack!

Vacation is always pricey. If you want to enjoy your vacation, your budget should be much.
